Top Three Ways to Prevent Motion Sickness in the Car

avoid motion sickness

  1. Watch What You Eat – Although this may not prevent the motion sickness altogether, watching what you eat before or during a road trip can definitely help. Be sure to avoid spicy, filling or fat-rich foods when you know you’re going to spend some time on the road. Alcohol or other liquids that do not agree with your body should also be taken into consideration to avoid motion sickness.
  2. Choose Your Position Wisely – If you can, sitting in the front seat is the best place to be. If you can fix your gaze straight ahead, that often helps to settle the motion sickness. Since children should not be in the front seat, it can be help for them to sit somewhere they can easily see out the window or keep an eye on the road ahead.
  3. Don’t Read or Write – One of the most common ways passengers experience motion sickness is when they’re not focusing on the road. If you’re prone to motion sickness in the car, be sure to keep your eyes on the road instead of reading or writing. Although it may be more difficult to entertain children this way, it’s sure to calm their stomach.
